Thermalright's New TG-GM Power Supplies Bring ATX 3.1 and Japanese Capacitors to the Mid-Range

Thermalright has expanded its power supply lineup with the TG-GM series, a trio of ATX 3.1-compliant units aimed at builders who want Japanese capacitor reliability without flagship pricing. The series covers 650W, 750W, and 850W, all carrying 80 PLUS Gold certification and fully modular flat cables.

Each unit measures a standard 140mm in depth, which should simplify installation in most mid-tower cases. Under the hood, Thermalright went with an LLC resonant plus DC-DC converter topology — a proven architecture for Gold-rated efficiency. The capacitors come from Nichicon, Rubycon, and Nippon Chemi-Con, all rated for 105°C, which tends to correlate with longer service life under sustained load.

The TG-GM models can handle up to 200% peak total load, and units at 750W and above include a native 12V-2×6 connector for modern graphics cards. All three support the full 100-240V input range and carry the standard suite of protection circuits: OVP, UVP, OPP, SCP, OTP, and OCP. Thermalright backs them with a five-year warranty.

Thermalright has also been refreshing its fan lineup with several LCP ring-blade double-ball-bearing models, including the TL-B9015 EX, TL-N12R-R13, TL-N12-R9, and TL-N12-R7.

Competitive Positioning

The TG-GM series enters a crowded mid-range PSU market where Corsair’s RMx series, Seasonic’s Focus Gold, and be quiet!’s Pure Power 12M already compete. Thermalright’s differentiators are the Japanese capacitor lineup (Nichicon and Rubycon are less common at this price point) and the relatively compact 140mm depth, which gives builders more room for cable management in smaller cases.

For builders considering the 850W model, the native 12V-2×6 connector eliminates the need for adapter cables when powering RTX 40-series or RX 7000-series cards. The five-year warranty trails the 10-year coverage offered by Corsair and Seasonic on their premium lines, but the pricing is expected to undercut those competitors by 15-20%, making the TG-GM series a strong value proposition for mid-range gaming and workstation builds.
